Outplacement pricing

How much does outplacement cost?

Our whole price list, published, with no form standing in front of it. Price your own program below, see exactly what drives the number, and send yourself a fixed quote.

The short answer

Outplacement services cost $499 to $5,500 per employee.

Four packages, set out in full below. The platform is identical in every one and a certified resume writer approves every document before it reaches the person; what changes is how much one-to-one time with a senior advisor is included, and how long the support runs.

Volume discounts apply automatically: 10% at five people in a single reduction, 20% at twenty, 25% at fifty. No minimum headcount, no platform fee, no annual commitment, and you are invoiced only for the people who actually enroll.

Everyone gets interview practice — on the platform, any time, as often as they want. What Executive adds is a rehearsal with a person on the other end. Mix packages freely: most reductions are mostly Essentials with Guided for the managers. Volume discounts apply automatically at 5, 20 and 50 people in a single reduction.

The calculator

Price your own program.

Tell us how many people are affected and at what level. You will see the cost straight away, itemized, with any volume discount already applied. Most firms in this market make you ask. We would rather you just knew.

Every number here is a person who is about to get hard news. We publish the price so you can get them real help quickly, in the days when it actually matters, instead of waiting on a procurement cycle.

Worked examples

What outplacement actually costs, in three real shapes.

Per-person list prices are only half the answer, because real reductions mix levels and reach volume bands. These are three common shapes, priced exactly as the calculator would price them.

A single executive exit

$5,500 One person, supported until they land

One VP leaving quietly, supported until they land, with all four coaching sessions, market positioning and board introductions. No volume band, because there is no volume. This is the case where the cost of getting it wrong is highest and the cost of getting it right is smallest as a share of the package.

A 25-person reduction

$12,700 About $508 per person

Twenty on Essentials, four managers on Guided and one director on Coached, all on the same notice date. Twenty-five people clears the twenty-person band, so 20 percent comes off list automatically. The blended figure lands close to the Essentials list price even with a director in the mix.

A 60-person site closure

$32,957 About $549 per person

Fifty on Essentials, eight managers on Guided and two executives. Sixty people clears the fifty-person band at 25 percent off list, the deepest band there is. Two executive packages sit inside a blended figure that still lands close to the Essentials list price, which is what volume does to a mixed reduction.

All three assume a single notice date. Spread the same headcount across a year and no volume band applies, because each departure is priced on its own. That is the most commonly misunderstood thing about outplacement pricing, and it is why the calculator asks about timing before it asks about headcount.

What drives the price

Six things move the cost of outplacement services.

If you are collecting quotes and the numbers look wildly different, it is almost always one of these six, not a difference in quality. Knowing which lever a quote is pulling is the fastest way to compare two proposals honestly.

1. The level of the person

A frontline search and an executive search are different pieces of work. One is largely about materials, targeting and volume of applications. The other is about positioning, confidentiality and relationships, and it takes months rather than weeks. Level is the single biggest driver of per-person cost anywhere in this market.

2. How long the support runs

Sixty days, ninety days, six months. Length is really a proxy for coach hours committed, which is why it tracks price so closely. Be wary of programs sold as twelve months where the coaching stops after two sessions and the rest is portal access you could get free.

3. Whether a real coach is involved

This is where the price gap in this category actually comes from. A self-serve platform with a video library and an AI resume tool costs a fraction of a named senior coach, because there is no person on the other end. Both get called outplacement. Only one of them picks up the phone.

4. How many people go at once

Volume discounts exist because a single reduction shares planning, notification support and logistics across everyone affected. Ours start at five people and reach 25 percent at fifty. The same fifty people spread across a year reach no band at all, because each one is a program of one.

5. How quickly you need it live

Buying reactively, in the week you need it, is the slowest way to do this. Notice dates rarely move, so the work that decides whether people are supported on day one happens before the decision is announced. Pricing it early costs nothing and takes the scramble out of the week that matters.

6. What else you need on the day

Outplacement rarely arrives alone. Severance review, notification training for the managers delivering the news, a survivor pulse, a team reset afterwards. These are priced as flat fees rather than folded into a per-person number, so you can see what each one costs and skip the ones you do not need.

Questions

Outplacement cost questions, answered.

How much does outplacement cost?

Outplacement costs $499 to $5,500 per person at Altavise Advisors, depending on the level of the employee and how much one-to-one coaching is included. Essentials is $499 per person for 60 days. Guided is $999 for 90 days and adds a Job Search Strategy Session with a senior advisor. Coached is $1,899 for 120 days and adds interview preparation and salary negotiation. Executive is $5,500 and runs until they land, with all four coaching sessions. Volume discounts start at five people in a single reduction and reach 25% at fifty.

How much do outplacement services cost per employee?

Per employee, expect $499 at the frontline level, $999 at the manager level, $1,899 for directors and $5,500 for executives before any discount. In a real reduction the blended figure lands lower, because most programs are mostly frontline and most reach a volume band. A 25-person reduction that is mainly individual contributors works out around $508 per person all in.

What is the difference between the four packages?

The platform is identical in all four: AI-built resume, LinkedIn, cover letter and thank-you note, every document reviewed and approved by a certified resume writer before release, daily guidance on what to do next, job matching, application tracking and AI interview practice. What changes is which one-to-one sessions with a senior advisor are included. Essentials has none. Guided adds the Job Search Strategy Session. Coached adds Interview Preparation and Salary Negotiation. Executive includes all four, adding the live Mock Interview Session, and runs until they land rather than to a fixed date.

What is the average cost of outplacement services?

There is no reliable published average, because almost no firm in this market posts a price. What you will find ranges from around $250 per person for an AI platform, through roughly $900 to $2,600 per person for a blended program, up past $6,000 per person for traditional executive outplacement. We set out the three ways this gets sold, and where each one is honest about what it delivers, on the average cost of outplacement page. Altavise publishes its whole list and puts a certified human review behind every document at every tier.

Is there a minimum number of people?

No. There is no minimum headcount, no platform fee and no annual commitment. We will run outplacement for a single departing employee at the same published per-person price. Volume discounts simply do not apply until five people go in one reduction.

What does the price include?

Every package includes their resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letter and thank-you note, drafted from their own history and then read and approved by a certified resume writer before release. It includes daily guidance with one specific thing to do about it, job matching, application tracking and AI interview practice for the length of the program. Higher packages add one-to-one sessions with a senior advisor: job search strategy, interview preparation, salary negotiation and a live mock interview.

Why do executives cost more?

Because the work is genuinely different and it runs far longer. An executive search takes months rather than weeks, it is often confidential, and it turns on positioning and relationships rather than applications. Executive runs until they land rather than to a fixed date, and includes all four coaching sessions with a dedicated senior advisor, market positioning and board and investor introductions, so the cost reflects the senior time actually committed.

Do volume discounts apply automatically?

Yes. Five to nineteen people in a single reduction takes 10% off list, twenty to forty-nine takes 20%, and fifty or more takes 25%. You do not have to negotiate for it and you do not have to ask. The calculator on this page applies it as you enter headcount, and the quote we send back matches what you saw.

What if people leave a few at a time across the year rather than all at once?

Then each departure is effectively a program of one, so each is priced at list and no volume band is reached. That is the honest answer. The calculator has a setting for exactly this shape, so you can see the annual number rather than a discounted one that will not apply to you.

When do I actually pay?

You are invoiced per person, only when someone actually enrolls. If you budget for thirty people and eighteen take up the support, you pay for eighteen. You never pay for support that went unused, which is the most common way companies waste money on outplacement.

Is outplacement worth the cost?

It depends on what you are exposed to. The clearest financial case is that faster re-employment shortens severance continuation and ends unemployment claims sooner, and your unemployment insurance experience rating follows those claims. Beyond that, a supported exit is a calmer exit, and departing employees are the loudest voice your future candidates hear. We are not going to hand you a return calculator built on invented multipliers, but if your severance runs until someone lands, the arithmetic is usually not close.

Do I have to provide outplacement?

There is no United States federal law requiring an employer to provide outplacement. It is voluntary in almost every case. What can create an obligation is your own severance agreement, a collective bargaining agreement, or a commitment made in a prior reduction. WARN Act notice duties are a separate matter and do not turn on outplacement. Check anything binding with your employment counsel.

Can I get a fixed quote without a sales call?

Yes. Price the program here, hit send, and we come back with a fixed per-person fee in writing, usually within one business day. There is no discovery call gate and no form standing between you and a number. Most people keep the quote on file and call when the day comes, which is exactly what it is for.
